I slept fitfully, the train's rhythmic shaking lulling me into a deep slumber. But as the darkness of the night wore on, I stirred, waking to an inky blackness that seemed to swallow everything. I stretched my neck, working out the kinks, and rolled my shoulders, trying to shake off the lingering fogginess.
As I slowly opened my eyes, my gaze faltered, searching for something, anything, to anchor me to reality. But there was nothing. No one. The realization hit me like a cold slap: I was completely alone.
Panic set in, my heart racing like a wild animal. I leapt to my feet, frantically searching compartment after compartment for any sign of human life. But every seat was empty, every berth unoccupied. The silence was oppressive, a heavy blanket that suffocated me.
I collapsed back into my seat, my hands flying to my face as if to scrub away the fear and tension. What was going on?
Where was everyone? The questions swirled in my mind like a maelstrom, leaving me gasping for answers.
Without warning, the train surged forward, accelerating with a ferocity that left me breathless. The windows and doors slammed shut, sealing me inside. I plummeted into my seat, grasping the armrests with a desperate intensity, my knuckles white with fear.
A deafening roar filled the air, a prolonged "woosh" that seemed to shake the very foundations of the train. A blinding light tore through my compartment, illuminating every detail with an otherworldly glow. It was as if the train itself had become a projectile, hurtling through space with reckless abandon.
And then, just as suddenly, the train screeched to a halt. I was thrown forward, my body crashing into the opposite seat with bone-jarring force. My hands and head smacked against the hard surface, sending shockwaves of pain coursing through my body. I cried out, my voice hoarse with agony, as the train creaked and groaned around me, its metal body protesting the sudden, brutal stop.
As I struggled to regain my bearings, my eyelids fluttered open, only to close again, like a butterfly's wings beating in slow motion. The world around me was a blur, a hazy mosaic of colors and shadows. I sensed movement, the soft clinking of footsteps, but my gaze couldn't quite focus on the figure looming over me.
Someone, or something, was dragging me away, the motion a slow, relentless pull. My mind fogged, my thoughts disintegrating into a jumbled mess. I tried to speak, to cry out, but my voice was trapped in my throat, silenced by some unseen force.
And then, like a candle snuffed out, everything went black. My consciousness slipped beneath the surface, plunging me into a dark, formless void. I was lost, adrift in a sea of nothingness, my senses dulled, my mind shattered into a thousand fragments..
